Description
“Inland Sea” imagines the topography of the vast Eromanga Sea that once covered a large swathe of eastern and central Australia, and laid down the sandstone that forms the base of the Great Artesian Basin.
My intent was to capture something of the feeling of being held by the Earth even as our hearts break at the damage we are continuing to cause.
Painted with acrylic, ink, rust, salt, earth pigments, limestone powder and cyanotype. The unpredictability of the interactions and reactions that arise between natural and synthetic materials speaks to the often jarring encounters that occur when humans forget that whatever we do to the Earth we do to ourselves.
63cm x 73cm. Cradled basswood panel framed in Tasmanian oak.
